This is looking good Nate, there's a sort of banyan tree look about the roots that I like, maybe I'll explore that more in a paint over. I also like the circular pathway idea.
The scale looks good as well, large enough to fit into FreeRealm's town scales but spread out enough to not have to overload ourselves with too many assets.
One thing me and Trevor noticed while looking over some FreeRealms images is that the ground is hilly and uneven alot, which helps to occlude the horizon (and reduces the need for lots of extra asset "fill-in" for the distance). I know that this is all still "prototype," I just wanted to put that out there so that you can keep your model adjustable before you get too attatched/go all insomniac on us lol
Trevor also had an idea about the tree being hollow in the main trunk, with sort of a sun spotlighted center/main town square.
As Glenn pointed out, the ground is going to need to be uneven, with hilly pathways, large boulders blocking areas, roots laying on the ground, etc. This will not only occlude certain areas of the environment, and guide players where we want them, but give more opportunity to add cool variation in the environment itself.
Image you're a player, and you walk up to to the root on the far right of the first image, there's a lot of "huge tree" stuff going on there, but it still seems well defined as an area itself, somewhat closed in.
Hey guys. I hear ya on the uneven ground. That would be a good thing to show on your paint-overs (if you use these images as a base).
If you'd like a blockin with broken up ground, I can happily do that as well. Really this blockin was just made to help the group get a unanimous understanding of the way the tree works, and provide a base for paint-overs; not as an actual started model.
Also, I'd like to check with the group once again, and make sure we're all on board for this idea. While I'm sure we can do a great job with this, I do feel that we didn't recieve very much excitement from our presentation, and somewhat feel that we sort of jumped on our first idea (after some modification)...
Don't worry about the presentation, Ian did a great job considering our initial idea got shot down. Asa was telling me after you all left that the 'giant tree' idea has been done and seems to be pretty against it, but I feel confident with what we can do with this new mock up. He wants me to e-mail him some updates on the visual ideas; Nate can you send me the max file so I can get some different camera angles?

Great first post Nate!
